Trade Show Pointers

Here are some pointers to help boost your success at your next trade show. Some you may already know, some you may not. Hopefully, everyone will get something that will help them do better.

Make Your Booth Welcoming

Make people want to come into your booth and explore. Stuffing it with it with too much furniture and inventory might scare them away. Make sure there’s enough room for your staff and for guests. Comfortable chairs and maybe even a couch will certainly draw in people and also give tired workers a few moments off their feet.
Indulge When Necessary

It’s wise to save money, however, splurging can sometimes reap rewards. Paying a bit extra for a coveted spot or to place your wares in a special display area might be worth it, just make sure you do the research and don’t get ripped off. Placing your products in a certain showcase may subject them to awards and allow access to retail chains.

Indulging in technology may also be worth the cost. Some exhibitors, rather than collect business cards, rent scanners that download the information into data files. It may cost them up to $300, but, again, it’s worth it.

Make Friends

Get to know other exhibitors. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Offer to watch their booth when they need a break. They’ll do the same for you whenever you need to get a drink or run to the rest room.

Make friends, too, with the people working the trade show. They worked really hard to make sure things went well for you. They deserve to be recognized and treated nicely.

Network

Talk to everyone you meet, even those you stand with in line at the rest room. You never know. Make friends with show staff and organizers. Tell them about what you sell and the kinds of customers you’re seeking. They may just send people your way.

Never Leave Your Booth Unattended

Not even to go to the rest room. Murphy’s Law will guarantee that the moment you run to get a drink will be the instant your best customer wanders into your booth. That’s why it pays to make friends and have someone there to tell that person you’ll be back in a minute. And, really be back in a minute. Don’t dawdle getting that drink or at the rest room, even if you’re talking to someone. Brink them back to your booth and continue the conversation.
