Selecting the Best Trade Shows to Attend
Trade shows are a useful tool to grow your business and attract potential customers. They can also help you network and gain insight into your industry. Some say you can learn more at a trade show than anywhere else. So, naturally, you want to select the best trade show for your business.
Every year there are various trade shows. Each one takes up time to for which to prepare, as will as money and manpower. But, which to you choose? You just can’t go because. Going to a few that cost more, but give you a large return on your investment are better than going to a lot that cost less, but give you no return.
Here are some factors to consider:
• Audience: will a large or small amount of people be attending? Is it a targeted audience? Will it be made up of managers and/or decision makers? Knowing exactly who will be attending is extremely important and you should know this information before you invest in participating at any trade show.
• Industry: find out the industry to which the trade show is regarding. This may sound strange, but titles may be misleading and/or vague. Once you determine the exact industry, you can then know if your services and/or product match and then focus on the audience.
• Return on Investment (ROI): list the accrued costs, including those related to travel and the trade show. Then consider what you expect to get back from the trade show. Will the trade show cost more than what you will get back? If you get a “yes,” it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t necessarily attend. It simply indicates that you need to work on obtaining more leads.
• Event Reputation: what are other people’s opinions about past events? Positive? Negative? Include co-workers, customers, and even competition. (You can figure this out through a simple Internet research).
Sponsors should be able to provide answers to these questions (except for ROI and Event Reputation).
